FOX News Delivers Highest-Rated January in Cable News History and Marks 23 Years at Number One
FOX News Channel (FNC) delivered its highest-rated January in cable news history and marked 23 consecutive years as the number one network in cable news, according to data from Nielsen Media Research. In primetime (8 – 11 PM/ET), FNC delivered 2.8 million viewers and 353,000 in the 25-54 demographic, growing its audience 40% year-over-year in total viewership and 61% in the 25-54 demo. In total day, FNC drew 1.9 million viewers and 253,000 in the 25-54 demo, marking 53% growth year-over-year with viewers and 70% in the 25-54 demo. Meanwhile CNN and MSNBC both saw all time January lows in the 25-54 demo with CNN slumping to 80,000 in total day and 118,000 in primetime, while MSNBC lagged to just 45,000 viewers in total day and 63,000 viewers in primetime. FNC commanded 67% of total day viewers and 69% of primetime viewers in January which was its second highest share in network history. Once again, more Independents and Democrats continued to tune in to FNC over any other network across total day, according to data from Nielsen MRI Fusion. FNC was also number one in cable news with Asians, Hispanics and upscale viewers throughout total day. Additionally, FNC was January’s fastest growing cable news network in both viewers and the 25-54 demographic.

FOX News Media’s Inauguration Coverage Is Most Watched in Cable News History With 11.7 Million Viewers
FOX News Media’s special programming surrounding the inauguration of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance was the highest rated in cable news history, according to data from Nielsen Media Research. Additionally, FNC’s special coverage marked the highest non-primetime cable news telecast in history and posted triple digit increases versus the inauguration of President Joe Biden in 2021 and grew in viewership versus 2017. Coverage across FOX News Channel (FNC) and FOX Business Network (FBN) peaked at 12 million viewers and 2.6 million in A25-54 in the 12 PM/ET hour. From 11:30 AM to 1 PM/ET, FNC’s Inauguration of Donald Trump, co-anchored by chief political anchor Special Report’s Bret Baier and anchor and executive editor of The Story Martha MacCallum, garnered 11.4 million in viewers and 2.4 million in A25-54, outpacing broadcast networks ABC, NBC, CBS in viewers and all cable networks across the board. It was FNC’s highest rated Inauguration Day special programming in network history. During inauguration coverage, FNC held 80% of the cable news audience share in viewers and 77% in the A25-54 demo as MSNBC and CNN marked more lows. According to data from Nielsen MRI Fusion, FNC also had the largest cable news share with democrats (72%) and independents (78%). FOX News Media (FNM) will unveil a series of programming changes across FOX News Channel (FNC) and FOX Business Network (FBN), announced FNM CEO Suzanne Scott. Beginning on January 21, FOX & Friends Weekend co-host Will Cain will take over the 4 PM/ET weekday timeslot on FNC with The Will Cain Show. FOX News contributor Charlie Hurt will replace Cain as co-host of FOX & Friends Weekend beginning January 18. The Fox Report and The Big Weekend Show will both expand to two hours on Saturdays & Sundays also starting on January 18. Fox News Channel Finishes 2024 With Highest Audience Share in Nearly a Decade as It Marks Nine Years as Cable’s Most-Watched Network
FOX News Channel (FNC) continued to break ratings records in 2024, finishing the year with the highest share of the cable news audience in nearly a decade as it marks nine consecutive years as the highest-rated cable network in all of television, according to Nielsen Media Research. FNC was the number one network throughout the political cycle and more viewers tuned into the network for breaking news coverage of major events than any other cable news channel, catapulting FNC to another year of ratings dominance. This past year, FNC held 56% of the cable news audience in primetime and 53% in total day, securing the majority of those watching the genre and notching its highest share of the audience since 2015. FNC was up the most in every category versus the year prior, posting double-digit gains across the board, and delivered double and triple-digit advantages over the competition in viewers, A25-54 and A18-49. In primetime, FNC averaged 2,384,000 viewers (+30% vs. 2023) and 294,000 in A25-54 (+40% vs. 2023), topping CNN and MSNBC combined in viewership. In total day, FNC saw 1,458,000 viewers (+21% vs. 2023) and 186,000 in A25-54 (+26% vs. 2023). The fastest growing cable channel of the year, FNC programs made up 70 of the top 100 cable news telecasts and the network had the highest length of tune in the genre across all categories. Additionally, more Independents and Democrats continued to choose FNC over any other network with viewers and A25-54, according to Nielsen MRI Fusion. The network was also number one among Hispanic, Asian and upscale viewers. Notably, CNN reached another new low, finishing the year with its smallest audience in network history in total day A25-54 with a paltry 91,000 in the demo and 481,000 in viewers.
