Aalo Atomics, the company building fully modular nuclear plants to power modern AI data centers (XMRs), has hit three new significant milestones on its path to July 2026 criticality for its Aalo-X reactor, a 10MWe factory-built experimental pilot power plant with modules assembled on site and precursor to Aalo’s first commercial product, the Aalo Pod. In recent weeks, Aalo signed an Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) and completed a Preliminary Design Review with the Department of Energy (DOE), becoming the first company in the DOE Reactor Pilot Program to begin construction activities at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL).

Aalo Atomics, the company building fully modular nuclear plants to power modern AI data centers (XMRs), signed a contract in July 2025 which set it to become the first U.S. advanced nuclear reactor company to accept the commercial delivery of enriched uranium. The fuel will be delivered by Urenco no later than the first quarter of 2026 and will pave the way for criticality of Aalo-X, which could be the first advanced reactor capable of producing power built in the U.S. in over a generation.

Today, Austin-based Aalo Atomics broke ground to start construction on Aalo-X, the first experimental extra modular nuclear reactor (XMR). Located next to Idaho National Laboratory (INL)’s Materials and Fuels Complex, Aalo plans to complete construction and achieve criticality for this reactor by July 4th, 2026. The groundbreaking event – coming just two weeks after Aalo was selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to participate in President Trump’s Nuclear Reactor Pilot Program – underscores Aalo’s ability to move at incredible speed to meet the imminent market need for new reliable, scalable and safe energy sources to power the next generation of data centers.

Aalo Atomics, the company building fully modular nuclear plants to power modern AI data centers, has secured $100M in Series B funding led by Valor Equity Partners with participation from new and existing investors including Fine Structure Ventures, Hitachi Ventures, NRG Energy, Vamos Ventures, Tishman Speyer, Kindred Ventures, 50Y, Harpoon Ventures, Crescent Enterprises, Crosscut, Alumni Ventures, MCJ, Gaingels, and Nucleation Capital, among others. Aalo has raised more than $136 million to date and is moving at lightspeed for a nuclear company, completing its first full-scale non-nuclear prototype earlier this year with plans to finish construction on its first extra modular nuclear reactor (XMR) in 2026.
