Indigitel Year in Review - Indigitel Acquires Canadian Spectrum License

Indigitel Telecommunications Corporation

December 19, 2024 – TheNewswire - On May 29, 2024, Indigitel proudly became Canada’s newest licensed cell phone carrier by acquiring 3800 MHz spectrum licenses in the Hope region of British Columbia and the Minden district of Ontario. This milestone marks a pivotal step in addressing the significant digital divide experienced by First Nations communities across Canada.

Currently, 55% of First Nations communities in Canada lack access to modern communication services. Indigitel’s spectrum acquisition represents the first step in a comprehensive effort to bridge this gap. As technology becomes increasingly essential for education, business, and maintaining connections with loved ones, the urgency of addressing these disparities continues to grow.

Eric Halstrom, Co-Founder of Indigitel, expressed his excitement about this development, stating: “We are very pleased to announce the acquisition of spectrum, which enables us to embark on our mission to connect unconnected persons throughout Canada. In the coming months, we will be reaching out to all nations to establish partnerships that will form the foundation of an Indigenous-owned national cell phone carrier. This initiative aims to collaborate with existing carriers to address the pressing issues of connectivity in underserved communities.”

Indigitel is committed to fostering equitable access to communication technologies for Indigenous communities while building a national network that prioritizes inclusivity and innovation. This milestone underscores the company’s dedication to making a tangible difference in bridging the digital divide and empowering First Nations communities across the country.
