Earnings To Watch: Coupang (CPNG) Reports Q4 Results Tomorrow

E-commerce platform Coupang (NYSE:CPNG) will be reporting earnings tomorrow after the bell. Here’s what to look for.

Coupang beat analysts’ revenue expectations by 2.1% last quarter, reporting revenues of $7.87 billion, up 27.2% year on year. It was a very strong quarter for the company, with an impressive beat of analysts’ EBITDA estimates and solid growth in its buyers. It reported 22.68 million active buyers, up 11.1% year on year.

This quarter, analysts are expecting Coupang’s revenue to grow 23% year on year to $8.07 billion, in line with the 23.2% increase it recorded in the same quarter last year. Adjusted earnings are expected to come in at $0.01 per share.

Analysts covering the company have generally reconfirmed their estimates over the last 30 days, suggesting they anticipate the business to stay the course heading into earnings. Coupang has missed Wall Street’s revenue estimates twice over the last two years.

Looking at Coupang’s peers in the online retail segment, some have already reported their Q4 results, giving us a hint as to what we can expect. Carvana delivered year-on-year revenue growth of 46.3%, beating analysts’ expectations by 6.2%, and Amazon reported revenues up 10.5%, in line with consensus estimates. Carvana traded down 12% following the results while Amazon was also down 4%.
