Thousand Oaks Home Sleep Apnea Test: Easy-To-Use WatchPAT One Device Available

Southern California Pulmonary and Sleep Disorders Medical Center (805-557-9930) expands access to home sleep testing as undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea rates rise across the United States.

-- The Thousand Oaks medical center's move to expand its home sleep testing services for early detection and intervention comes as an estimated 80% of obstructive sleep apnea cases remain undiagnosed nationwide, according to AASM data.

Recent data published in the SLEEP Journal estimates that approximately 85.6 million U.S. adults are affected by obstructive sleep apnea, with four in five cases remaining undiagnosed. Common symptoms include chronic snoring, observed pauses in breathing, choking sensations during sleep, high blood pressure, diabetes, and persistent daytime fatigue.

The clinic now offers enhanced access to the WatchPAT One, an FDA-cleared diagnostic device that enables patients to conduct sleep studies at home using a simplified three-point contact system. The device collects sleep data through a chest sensor, wrist bracelet, and finger probe, all connected to a mobile application.

Traditional sleep studies often involve overnight stays in specialized labs, which can be cost-prohibitive and logistically challenging. The center's approach addresses these barriers by offering an affordable and accessible home-based alternative. The WatchPAT One costs $349, compared to in-lab studies that often exceed $1,000. Most major insurance providers now cover home testing when prescribed by a physician.

A spokesperson for the sleep center stated, "Our goal is to make sleep apnea diagnosis more convenient, especially for patients who may avoid traditional testing due to discomfort or scheduling issues. With our home testing service, individuals can undergo accurate assessments while maintaining their regular sleep routine."

The program includes expedited turnaround: sleep data is reviewed by board-certified specialists, with personalized reports and treatment recommendations delivered within 24 to 48 hours. The streamlined process aims to accelerate diagnosis and help patients begin therapy sooner.
