Western Alliance Bank Empowers the Next Generation of ‘Farmpreneurs’ at Green Our Planet’s Fall Giant Student Farmers Market

More than 75 Western Alliance Bank team members joined students, teachers and community partners at Green Our Planet’s 12th annual Fall Giant Student Farmers Market on Oct. 16, helping young “Farmpreneurs” across the Clark County School District put financial literacy lessons into practice.

Held at the Clark County Government Center, the event brought together 300 students from 30 local schools to sell their school-grown produce and handmade crafts. Collectively, the students raised nearly $12,750 to reinvest into their garden and hydroponic programs. This effort was made possible in part through the continued support of Green Our Planet’s partners, including Western Alliance Bank.

Western Alliance Bank volunteers played a hands-on role at the market, serving as cash handlers, booth bankers and deposit makers to support students throughout the day. These efforts are part of the bank’s broader commitment to advancing financial literacy and entrepreneurship in Nevada and beyond.

“The Fall Giant Student Farmers Market is one of our favorite days of the year,” said Jerrie Merritt, Senior Vice President, Community Development Manager, for Western Alliance Bank. “Our bankers love helping students see how the lessons they’ve learned about budgeting, pricing and marketing come to life in a real-world setting. Watching a fourth-grader confidently make change for a customer or calculate profit margins is inspiring.”

Western Alliance Bank supports the country’s largest STEM school garden and hydroponic program through its long-standing support of Green Our Planet, which merges hands-on science education with the first comprehensive financial literacy curriculum for grades K-12 in the state of Nevada. During the school year, bank volunteers visit the schools actively participating in the program to teach fundamental money management skills and introduce students to the basics of banking and entrepreneurship.

“By linking what occurs in the classroom with meaningful, real-life experiences, Green Our Planet’s program gives students the opportunity to think like business owners and community leaders,” said Merritt. “We’re proud to help grow more than gardens. We’re helping young Nevadans build confidence and financial independence.”

Western Alliance Bank’s engagement with Green Our Planet reflects the organization’s broader commitment to the community by investing in the economic vitality, education and financial empowerment of families and businesses. Through the Western Alliance Community Foundation and local partnerships, the bank has invested in programs to help people and communities thrive in Nevada and elsewhere.
